More Fourths

Home of the Jazz Guitar Almanac

Here is another exercise designed to get the guitarist playing fourths across the neck while working the pick down and up alternately. The ascending and descending patterns are straightforward and will help to develop the ability to roll the fingers across neighboring strings. As with many guitar exercises it’s a good idea to play the whole thing with up strokes only. This will improve overall picking facility.

Play this exercise in every key at all tempos through the range of your instrument.
